Jordan Greenway signs entry-level deal with Wild

NHL, Minnesota Wild

Olympian and Boston University forward Jordan Greenway has signed an entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild, the team announced Monday.

BU lost to Michigan in the NCAA Northeast Regional final Sunday, opening the door for the 21-year-old to jump to the pros.

Greenway scored 13 goals and added 22 assists in 36 games as a junior this season.

The 6-foot-6 Canton, New York, native had a goal for Team USA at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

"It's rare to find a player with that combination of size, speed and skill, and he's a guy we think is ready to play in the NHL," Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher told reporters. "It's a tough league. I'm sure there are going to be adjustments, and he's going to have to learn the league and figure out how his game translates at this level, but having said that the skill set is pretty impressive."

Greenway was selected in the second round of the 2015 draft by the Wild. His three-year contract begins with the rest of this season, and he is expected to join the Wild in time for Tuesday's game at Nashville.

"He's certainly a physical, strong man on the ice, but just a very good, kind person off the ice," Fletcher said. "He gets along with people and loves life. He's worked hard for this. I'm very happy for him."

The Wild also announced they had reassigned forward Zack Mitchell to AHL Iowa. Mitchell has three goals and two assists in 23 games for Minnesota this season.

Entering Monday, Minnesota was third in the Central Division with 93 points.
