Jets, goalie Connor Hellebuyck agree to six-year deal

NHL, Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms with goaltender Connor Hellebuyck on a six-year, $37 million deal, the team announced Thursday.

Hellebuyck, who now avoids a salary arbitration hearing, tied for the NHL lead for most wins with a 44-11-9 record last season. He was eighth in the league with a 2.36 goals-against average and had a .924 save percentage.

The 44 wins -- 30 of which came at home -- are the most in NHL history by an American-born goaltender.

He also went 9-8 with a 2.36 GAA and .922 save percentage in the postseason as the Jets reached the Western Conference finals.

Hellebuyck, a fifth-round draft choice by the team in 2012, finished second in balloting for the Vezina Trophy, which went to the Predators' Pekka Rinne.
