Associated Press

OTTAWA (AP) -Ottawa Senators forward Alex Kovalev will miss the NHL playoffs because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

The team said on Saturday that the Russian will have surgery later this month and will need about four months to rehabilitate afterward.

Kovalev was injured during a 4-3 shootout loss to Tampa Bay on Thursday.

The 37-year-old has 18 goals and 31 assists in 77 games this season. He has 990 points (412-578) in 1,228 career regular-season games.
